Home Hospice of Cooke County is pleased to announce the next four-week series of Support Groups starting on January 22, 2019. Each week the group shares and discusses their experiences in coping with loss. The group will meet in the Home Hospice Office at 505 W. Center Street in Sherman, TX.

We are pleased to offer two sessions on Tuesdays starting January 22th and continuing through February 12th. To provide options to meet during the day we are offering Mornings from 10:00 am to 11:30 am or if you prefer, Evenings from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm.

“Experiencing the loss of a loved one always leaves a void in our lives” said Nancy Jackson with Home Hospice. “As we go through grief and mourning we change in many ways. It becomes a journey and it is our journey with no right or wrong way to progress. We find that sharing with others who have experienced the loss of a loved one can make our healing easier. Come and join us as we support each other.”

This afternoon the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office reported that a suspicious envelope was delivered to US Congressman John Ratcliffe’s Office inside the Grayson County Courthouse. The Congressman was not in the office at the time when it was delivered. The Sheriff’s Office says they are handling the situation as a possible Haz Mat matter. No one is in immediate danger at the present time and the courthouse is conducting business as usual at this time without any evacuations.

The Plano Bomb Squad and HazMat Team are on location to contain the suspicious envelope.

According to Grayson County Commissioner Jeff Whitmire, motorists should avoid US Highway 75 in Anna on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 11 and 12.

US-75 through the Anna area will be closed in both directions from UPDATED TIMES**** NOON SATURDAY THROUGH 6 AM MONDAY. Hwy 5 will have heavy traffic so it is recommended to use Hwy 289 as a better alternative. Whitmire stated on Grayson County Precinct 1 page that the best plan would be to avoid Dallas entirely.

US 75 Southbound Main Lanes Closed for Traffic Switch Situation/Activity TxDOT’s contractor Austin Bridge and Road will be performing a mainline traffic switch on Southbound US-75 into new detour alignment and then onto newly constructed roadway.

Detour Directions: Friday: All traffic will be required to Exit SB US 75 at Exit 48 ( FM 455 ) onto SB Frontage Rd and will be allowed to re-enter US-75 at on-ramp south of Melissa Rd.

Other Information: 1) Message boards will be placed on US 75 to alert public of lane closures. 2)Police Officers will be at the intersection of FM 455 and US-75 southbound frontage road to help mitigate congestion.

Local Traffic Seek Alternate Route (Delay / Detour)

The Howe Bulldogs football team got some good news as Elijah Campbell, Joseph Brennan, and Spencer Akins were all named to the Academic All-State team.

Campbell and Brennan were each named 2nd Team while Akins was Honorable Mention.

The THSCA (Texas High School Coaches Association) Academic All-State Teams recognize high school athletes who excel in the following categories: GPA, class rank and ACT/SAT score.

Paris — Here’s a look at work planned in Fannin and Grayson Counties during the week of Jan. 7, 2019. These schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, equipment failure or other unforeseen issues. Motoristsare advised to remain alert and pay special attention to all signs, barricades and traffic controls, and reduce their speed as they approach and travel through work zones. They should also avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, drinking, or car audio or navigation systems.

Sherman Area (Fannin, Grayson Counties)

FM 691, Grayson County: from FM 131/Loy Lake Rd. to US 75.  Watch for temporary one-lane closures as workers begin construction on widening FM 691 to an ultimate 5 lane roadway. The intersection of FM 691 with FM 131/Loy Lake Road will be temporarily converted to a four-way stop at the beginning of the project and will become a signalized intersection at the conclusion of construction.

FM 1417, Grayson County: from FM 691 to US 82. Watch for traffic shifts and slow moving vehicles as workers widen the roadway from FM 691 to US 82.

US 75 Ramp Reversal in Denison, Grayson County: on the southbound US 75 main lanes and frontage road between FM 120 and Crawford Street. Watch for shoulder closures and lane shifts as workers work on constructing the retaining walls for this project. The southbound US 75 exit ramp for Crawford Street is closed and traffic wishing to use this exit should use the FM 120 (Morton Street) exit.

US 75 Ramp Reversal in Sherman, Grayson County: on the northbound US 75 main lanes and frontage road between Choctaw Creek and FM 1417. Watch for shoulder closures and lane shifts on the main lanes and a left lane closure on the frontage road as workers work on constructing the new exit ramp and entrance ramp. The existing ramps will remain open during construction of the new ramps.

US 75 Full Depth concrete repair, Grayson County: crews will be working on southbound US 75 weather permitting each week from Sunday night thru Thursday night. Lane closures will be present during the nighttime only in order for crews to replace failed concrete locations. Lane closures begin at 7:30 pm and all lanes should be reopened by 6:00 am.

US 75 debris pickup, Grayson County: from Collin County line to Oklahoma State line. Watch for mobile operations as workers pick up debris from the roadway every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during the day-time.

SH 11, Grayson and Fannin County: from US 69 to SH 121. Watch for traffic shifts and occasional one-lane closures as workers rehab and widen the roadway.

ADA Curb Ramp project, Grayson and Fannin County: various locations. Watch for shoulder closures and occasional lane closures as crews work in Honey Grove to install new sidewalks and curb ramps along SH 56 and FM 100. Crews are also working in Bonham on Loop 205 installing sidewalks and curb ramps.

US 82, Fannin County: from SH 121 to the Lamar County Line. Watch for slow-moving construction equipment as crews work on widening US 82 from a two-lane roadway to a four-lane divided section. Watch for lane closures on SH 78 and SH 121 as crews work to construct the new westbound US 82 bridge overpasses.

FM 1752, Fannin County: from US 82 to FM 898. Watch for temporary one-lane closures as workers rehab and widen the roadway.

FM 816 & Recreation Road 3, Fannin County: from Fannin-Hunt County line to SH 78 on FM 816, and from FM 273 eastward for two miles on Rec. Road 3 south of Lake Bonham. Watch for temporary lane closures as workers install safety treatments on fixed objects.

CR 4526 at Tributary to Bois D’arc Creek, Fannin County: CR 4131 at Cooper Creek is closed as crews work on replacing the bridge.

Over the last two weeks, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office received several burglary reports and trespassing complaints from the Sherwood Shores area. These complaints were in reference to an unidentified white male, who was seen walking in the area multiple times and breaking into homes. Sheriff’s Office Investigators were able to identify the male from victim’s statements. Based on their investigations, they were able to identify Zachary Paul Nelson of Gordonville and link him to multiple burglaries and trespassing complaints in the area. Sheriff’s Office Investigators quickly submitted and obtained an arrest warrant on the suspect. Once the arrest warrant was active, multiple Deputies and Investigators responded to the area to attempt to locate the suspect. On January 3rd, 2019 the suspect was spotted in Sherwood Shores and placed under arrest by a Patrol Deputy.

Nelson was taken to the Sheriff’s Office and interviewed by investigators. Nelson is currently incarcerated in the Grayson County Detention Center for Burglary of a Habitation and is being held on a $10,000.00 bond, with further charges pending. The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office was able to identify and quickly catch the suspect based on information and assistance coming from members of the Sherwood Shores community.

Each year the Howe Area Chamber of Commerce requests nominations from the public for the Howe Hall of Honor. This years’s event will be held on Friday evening, May 3 and for the fifth consecutive year will kickoff the Annual Founders Day Festival which takes place on the first Saturday of May.

Nominations will go through Feb. 28 at midnight which the chamber will then determine the top 10 nominees and put them back out to the public for voting for the final inductees. That voting will end March 30.

Just as a year ago, the chamber will induct two living members and two deceased members for the Howe Hall of Honor in May. Last year’s inductees were Harold Taylor, Norman Bennett, Bob Williams, and Tommy Skipworth.
