This May 7, the Howe Area Chamber of Commerce will host the 3oth Annual Founders Day celebration in Downtown Howe. They have completely re-branded the event to be more in tune with Howe’s successful annual Fall Festival. The chamber has moved Founders Day from the traditional 8 am – noon to an evening event which will now start at 2 pm and go through 8 pm with live music and performances throughout the day. City Lights Band will play from 3 pm – 5 pm and will be followed by Duane Peters and Simply Blessed from 6 pm – 8 pm. Peters performed at the first Founders Day in 1986.
The newly chartered Howe Lions Club will host their first event – a 42 tournament and the Howe Chamber is hosting such events as a horseshoe tournament, lawnmower race, and Touch a Truck event. The Touch a Truck will take place on the west end of Davis Street in the field behind Independent Bank. It will feature large machines such as Fire trucks, tractors, combine, county and city machinery, police vehicle, and others. Kids will be able to sit in the vehicles and have their pictures made for a small fee. The money raised in this event will go back to the kids in the form of upgrading the city parks.
There will be plenty of food options available at Founders Day including pizza, fries, kettle corn, hot dogs, cinnamon bites, sliders, peanuts, homemade ice cream, and shaved ice. Abby’s Restaurant and Gabriela’s Mexican Cocina will also be open for business.
There will be two different inflatable bounce houses for kids as well as a bubble machine and face painting. Many vendors are providing games for the kids. Earlier in the day, there will be a bicycle repair clinic held for kids at First Baptist Church.
The Howe Fire Department is working with a classic car club to overhaul the Classic Car Show and make it the best in years. Rob Hunt of AAAA Automotive and Kevin Barnett of Star Auto Body have confirmed to be a judge of the show.
The Howe Lions Club has not set an entry fee just yet for the 42 tournament, but the horseshoe tournament and lawnmower race entry fees will be $10. To enter in any of these events please email info@howechamber.com and specify your event.
A Facebook event page has been made and you can find it here.
