PREGAME NOTES

Edgewood at Howe bi

Howe is entering game number 730 with an overall record of 371-334-24 dating back to the program’s first game in 1935.  It will be the first ever match up between Howe and Edgewood.  Howe hasn’t played in Royse City since 1992 when they lost 21-13.  Howe has not played in the new stadium that opened in 2008.

It is Howe’s 31st playoff game and the overall playoff record is 11-16-3 in 72 seasons.  Howe’s first playoff win was a controversial bi-district match up with Anna, who actually won the game on the field by a score of 7-6.  However, the Coyotes used an ineligible player and Howe was awarded the Bi-District Championship, the first in school history.

Sherman stalker sentenced for Assault of Public Servant

BrianWalkerOn Wednesday, February 4, 2015, Brian Walker, 49, of Sherman was found guilty by a Grayson County jury of two counts of Assault of a Public Servant.   Walker will be sentenced by 397th Court Judge Brian Gary at a later hearing in January.

On April 23, 2015, a woman called 9-11 from Fairview Park saying she was being  followed by Walker who was on bond for Stalking charges in which the woman was the victim.   Sherman Police Officer Kent Stoy, who responded to the call, observed Walker leaving the location where the victim had been, and Stoy was able to detain Walker a few blocks from the park.  Officer Stoy and Officer Kaleb Edwards, who had also responded to the scene, notified Sherman Detective James Harris, who had previously investigated Walker for the charge of Stalking, and had arranged for the bond conditions requiring Walker to stay away from the woman who had called the police.   After talking to the parties, the Sherman officers arrested Walker for violating the terms of his bond conditions.   When officers attempted to arrest Walker, he became enraged and assaulted Officer Edwards and Detective Harris by kicking them.

The punishment range for the crime of Assault of a Public Servant is a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 10 years in the Texas Department of Corrections, and up to a $10,000 fine.  Walker, who is also eligible for probation, has elected to have his punishment set by Judge Brian Gary of the 397th Judicial District Court. Sentencing is scheduled for January 4, 2015.  Stalking charges against Walker remain pending.
