On Saturday, September 19, The Beatles, er um, Hard Night’s Day, will invade Howe High School and perform a benefit concert for the Howe Ex-Students Association.
This is taking place on the same weekend of the All-School Reunion on Saturday night at 7:30. All of the proceeds of the concert go to the scholarship fund for the Howe Ex-Students Association.
Back in 2010, the committee hired Kraig Parker to perform at Howe High School and the Elvis impersonator helped bring enough people to fund the scholarship for five years.
David Griffin was the latest recipient for the scholarship. The qualifications to receive the funds are that an application must be turned in along with a summary of what Howe means to them. The recipient must also be at least a second generation Howe ISD student.
Hard Night’s Day is a popular Beatles tribute band from the Dallas area and play all over the metroplex and beyond.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at Independent Bank in Howe.
The concert is sponsored by Howe Family Dentistry, Team Bonner Chevrolet, Independent Bank in Howe, Jeff Williams – Mayor of Arlington, TX, Nortex Field Services, and JD’s Babbitt Bearings.

2014 Recap
In 2014, Howe’s offense ranked 5th of 71 Bulldog teams with 28.7 points per game. The previous year was ranked 54 with 11.8 points per game. That was an improvement by 16.9 points per game which was the biggest turnaround in school history from one year to the next. The previous high was 13.7 from 2009 to 2010.
The 2014 Howe Bulldogs were the 14th team in school history to make the playoffs. They set a record for the most points scored in a single playoff run with 101 and a record for the most points scored in a playoff game (50 vs. Hughes Springs).
The 2014 Howe Bulldogs also gave up a school record tying 71 points to eventual state champion Waskom in the regional championship and gave up 123 points in the playoff run, which also was the most by any team.
While the offense was in the top five in school history, the defense, with four freshman starters ranked 64th of 71 by giving up 26.8 points per game. Those numbers were heavily skewed in the final game vs. Waskom. Coach Zack Hudson’s defense was actually statistically a little better in his first year of 2013 by allowing 24.2 points per game. Hudson arrived in Howe and inherited the worst ranked defense in school history that gave up an astonishing 38.1 points per game in 2012. The 13.9 point improvement from ’12 to ’13 was the biggest turnaround in school history from one year to the next.
When the defense improves by nearly two touchdowns and the offense improves by nearly 17 points, wins start to total up and a 2-8 team in 2012 became a quick three-round playoff team in 2014.

On the evening of Sept. 1, 2015, Howe police officers executed a search warrant at a residence in the 400 block of Hidden Valley Trail in Sherman. Howe Police Chief Carl Hudman stated that the warrant was obtained as a result of a burglary investigation initiated earlier in the day at a residence in the 300 block of N. Collins Freeway in Howe. According to police, a homeowner reported that a neighbor entered her unoccupied residence and stole a large quantity of prescription medication. Police say they located the suspect, a 31-year-old Howe woman, at her boyfriend’s house in Sherman and eventually obtained a search warrant for the boyfriend’s residence and the suspect’s vehicle.
A press release stated that officers recovered the stolen medication, still inside the victim’s prescription pill bottles, hidden inside the residence. The release also stated that additional un-prescribed Xanax tablets were found in the suspect’s purse. The boyfriend was not charged. The suspect was arrested for Burglary of a Habitation and booked into the Grayson County Jail. Hudman added that the suspect will be facing additional charges for the Xanax tablets.
