Van Alstyne staging Interurban Park

The old Interurban cars that once ran through Van Alstyne and Howe will be restored and used as a backdrop for concerts.  The Van Alstyne Chamber of Commerce is using funds from the Van Alstyne Community Development Corporation.  Full story in Monday’s Howe Enterprise.

McQueen leading the Florence Buffaloes

Former Howe head coach Joey McQueen is now leading the Florence Buffaloes. McQueen was 16-16-2 in Howe replacing Jim Fyar in 1990. Under McQueen, Howe won the District, Bi-District and Area Championships in 1990 and ’91. McQueen is the only former Bulldogs head coach who is still an active varsity head football coach.

The Ballinger native is trying to turn around a program that only won one game last season. The Florence Buffaloes won their season opener 52-19 over Rosebud-Lott and lost last week to Jarrell, 29-26.

Bulldog Stadium changes you need to know

Tonight is the night that Superintendent Kevin Wilson and Athletic Director Zack Hudson planned for since the cold weather days of early 2014.  The new and improved Bulldog Stadium is ready and renovated as a first class 3A facility.  There are lots of changes for those who are making their first trip to the 79 year-old (and oldest active in North Texas) stadium for the first time since last season.

Here’s what you should know:

The ladies restrooms are located in the new south field house (visitors field house).

The men’s restrooms are located in the old north field house (home field house).

The standing room only area to the south of the bleachers is not available any longer.

Grass behind the bleachers is not for youth football.

Smoking area is outside the gate.

Stadium entrance and exit is also available from Long Street (north of the stadium).

Paved handicap parking is by the ticket booth just behind the back of the bleachers.
