Just after 6:15 a.m., an oil tank was struck by lightning. Within a matter of minutes, it was engulfed in flames.
Howe Fire Chief Robert Maniet said that Howe along with Whiteboro, Gunter, Collinsville Fire Departments are working together on it. The Grayson County Fire Marshall along with the North Texas Regional Airport were the first line of defense on the sight.
Due to the rain, getting to the fire in the mud served as a problem also.
“We’re trying to keep our distance right now until cools down for us to get up there and get it taken care of.” said Maniet.
