Five vehicles involved in wreck in Howe on New Years (photos)

This morning at 3:00 am in the construction area at FM 902 and Hwy 75, a car started a chain reaction resulting in five vehicles in a wreck including Van Alstyne’s Fire’s Medic 141 Ambulance who was transporting a patient at the time. Howe Fire and Van Alstyne Fire shutdown Hwy 75 for three hours. Five individuals were transported to local hospitals and Howe and Van Alstyne PD took two into custody on scene.

Howe Fire Department was responding to a hay bale fire in Van Alstyne went one of their own fleet caught on fire just south of town on Hwy 5.  The 1999 Ford F-350 driven by fire fighter Steven Cortinas.

“I heard a loud pop.” said Cortinas.  “I pulled over to see what was going on because I saw smoke.  A UPS driver pulled over and told me the bottom was on fire.  The next thing we know, the belts and everything on the bottom was on fire.”

No injuries were reported.  The vehicle was a V-10 five-speed and had been a part of the fleet since 1999.

Howe’s Mayor Stanley talks about CMA’s Toys for Tots tragedy

Russell “Russ” Neis, 49 of McKinney was recently fataly struck by an oncoming car while delivering toys on his motorcycle to a church in Whitewright.  Neis was the President of the McKinney CMA (Christian Motorcycle Association) Chapter Guardians of Grace as well as a certified instructor for North Texas Riders.  Russ was a member of Crosspoint Church in McKinney, where he was an usher and active member of the men’s group.

Howe’s Mayor Jeff Stanley, who is president of the Sherman Christian Motorcycle Association in Grayson County and new President of the CMA Chapter Guardians of Grace, Tom Davis spoke with The Howe Enterprise and with KTEN television about the tragedy and outreach of the Christian Motorcycle Association.  The full story will be in Monday’s edition on Dec. 29, 2014.
