The Howe Area Chamber of Commerce located and recovered seven old photos of the city in order to be hung downtown in the new chamber office.  The photos had been hung in the Howe Estates Mobile Home Park office for many years.  Full story in Monday’s Howe Enterprise.IMG_8197

Blue Ridge man arrested in Howe for drugs and gun

On March 2,  Howe Police Officer Robert Todd arrested a 25-year-old Blue Ridge, Texas man for Unlawful Possession of Firearm by Felon, Prohibited Substance/Item in Correctional Facility, Possession of controlled substance PG 1 less than one gram, and Possession of Marijuana less than two ounces.  The arrest was a result of a traffic stop in the 700 block of US Hwy 75 for a traffic violation.  After meeting with the the driver, Officer Todd became suspicious that he was in possession of drugs.  The man refused Officer Todd’s request to search his vehicle.  A Bells Police Department canine handler drove to the scene and his dog alerted to presence of a narcotic odor coming from the suspect’s car.  Officer Todd then searched the car and found less than a gram of methamphetamine, less than two ounces of marijuana, and a pistol.  The man was arrested and taken to the Grayson County jail.  While at the jail, Officer Todd found less than a gram of methamphetamine inside the suspect’s wallet.  The charge for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon was added after the officer discovered the man had prior felony convictions.

Howe Area Chamber of Commerce off to good start

Without a grand opening, the Howe Area Chamber of Commerce has already gained enough interest from businesses in the area that 19 members have already been accounted for.  Those 19 include Bethel Baptist Church, Abby’s Restaurant, TekWav, The Howe Enterprise, Howe Mercantile, Sheryl Bentley REALTOR, Howe I.S.D., El Patio Mexican Restaurant & Cantina, Howe Community Library, Joe and Sandra Shephard, Norman Farms, Bob Utter Ford, Linda Wall, Sheep Boutique, Texas Farm Bureau – Loretta Anderson, Servpro of Sherman/Denison, GCEC, Kathy McGarry of Mayo Agency, Atmos Energy and Got Signs & More.

The new office is scheduled to open April 1.

A glimpse of Howe in the 1950’s has been found

Two photos were found by Janie Thompson Finney that reveal the inside of the corner downtown building that is currently being transformed in to the Howe Development Alliance/Howe Area Chamber of Commerce/Keep Howe Beautiful office.  These photos were taken for the 1954-55 Howe Spotlight annual (yearbook).  They will hang in the building as 3′ x 4′ murals when the office is ready to open.

Another downtown building has sold

Downtown Howe continues to change hands as Tom and Leslie Defrange have purchased the building located at 103 E. Haning St which was previously owned by Paris Palacios where she has operated her hair salon, Designer Cuts, since 2005.  Six of the seven units on the north side of downtown have been purchased by new owners since the beginning of 2014.
