Gayle Yvonne Skipworth, 1949-2022

Gayle Yvonne Skipworth, 73, went to be with the Lord on June 5, 2022. She died peacefully at her home.

Gayle was born in Sherman, Texas, on March 11, 1949, to parents Lee and Mary Jo Clarkston. She graduated from Sherman High School in 1968 and earned a bachelor’s degree from Austin College in 1971. Gayle married her high school sweetheart, Tommy Skipworth, on June 1, 1971. A year later, the couple was blessed with a son, Jay Skipworth.

Gayle was a dedicated teacher and educator for 43 years, primarily with the Howe Independent School District. She retired in 2014 but continued to substitute teach for Howe ISD and Van Alstyne ISD. She was a compassionate educator who was committed to her students. Her greatest joy as a teacher was helping them find their strengths.

Gayle is survived by her son Jay and his wife Denise of Van Alstyne; and her two beloved grandsons, Blake and Brady Skipworth, also of Van Alstyne, with whom she loved spending time. She especially enjoyed cheering them on at their many sporting events. Gayle also is survived by her little sister, Denise Clarkston of Lewisville. In recent years, the sisters were frequent traveling companions, taking cruises and enjoying Disney World together. Gayle also had a soft heart for dogs, whom she loved like family.

Gayle also leaves behind several brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as her many students and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
