Michael Shawn Fountain, 43, passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021, in Denison, Texas. He was born on July 7, 1978, in Sherman. Shawn, otherwise known as Moondog, was a lifelong resident of Howe, Texas. He was a Christian and attended several area churches including Community Bible Fellowship, First Baptist Church of Dorchester, and Inspiration Point Cowboy Church. He also went on trips with the XYZ group at First Baptist Church of Howe.
Since his graduation from Howe High School in 1997, Moondog remained the Bulldogs’ most loyal fan. He has assisted on the sidelines at many football games, basketball games, or any Bulldog sporting event that needed extra help. He often led the fans in cheers and livened up the crowd by twirling towels and pumping fists. He was known to show some of his dance moves (such as the sprinkler) at a Howe pep rally or football game. Many of the coaches and school staff remained dear friends to Shawn and treated him as a member of their families. Coach Rose, Coach Elvington, and Coach Jehling were among those that offered friendship and guidance to Shawn.
As one of the most notable residents of Howe, Shawn could be seen riding his orange scooter around town. He attended regular meetings at the Howe Fire Department and was proud to be treated as an honorary fireman. He enjoyed the camaraderie shared by the Howe firefighters and valued their friendship. He worked at Palio’s Pizza Café where he greeted friends with a warm welcome. He also enjoyed going to the lake and fishing with family and friends.
