Shawn “Moondog” Fountain, 1978-2021

Michael Shawn Fountain, 43, passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021, in Denison, Texas. He was born on July 7, 1978, in Sherman. Shawn, otherwise known as Moondog, was a lifelong resident of Howe, Texas. He was a Christian and attended several area churches including Community Bible Fellowship, First Baptist Church of Dorchester, and Inspiration Point Cowboy Church. He also went on trips with the XYZ group at First Baptist Church of Howe.

Since his graduation from Howe High School in 1997, Moondog remained the Bulldogs’ most loyal fan. He has assisted on the sidelines at many football games, basketball games, or any Bulldog sporting event that needed extra help. He often led the fans in cheers and livened up the crowd by twirling towels and pumping fists. He was known to show some of his dance moves (such as the sprinkler) at a Howe pep rally or football game. Many of the coaches and school staff remained dear friends to Shawn and treated him as a member of their families. Coach Rose, Coach Elvington, and Coach Jehling were among those that offered friendship and guidance to Shawn.

As one of the most notable residents of Howe, Shawn could be seen riding his orange scooter around town. He attended regular meetings at the Howe Fire Department and was proud to be treated as an honorary fireman. He enjoyed the camaraderie shared by the Howe firefighters and valued their friendship. He worked at Palio’s Pizza Café where he greeted friends with a warm welcome. He also enjoyed going to the lake and fishing with family and friends.

Shawn is survived by his loving family including his brothers: Rick Fountain and wife Melanie, Leroy Fountain and wife Becky; sisters: Teresa Mclain and husband Tony, Sherry Grady and husband Mickey; cousins: Chad Fountain, Chase Fountain, Jennifer Adams and husband Jason, Stacey Morris and husband Clay, Brent Fountain and wife Erin, Kallie Sullivan and husband Dusty, Megan-Mclain Turnbow and husband Cody, Brad Grady and wife Alex, Nathan Grady and wife Jessica; plus much extended family including aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Wanda Fountain.

The family would like to extend warm thanks to ICU staff, Kandy Harris, and other nurses at Texoma Medical Center that provided special care for Shawn. Additionally, the family is grateful to the Howe ISD administration and staff for their hospitality and kindness through the years.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne. Judy Karen Harmon Finney, 1951-2021

Judy Karen Harmon Finney (Neena) was born October, 11 1951 in Sherman Texas. Judy passed peacefully on August 31, 2021.  Judy was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an unparalleled force of love, joy and kindness.

It is not possible to package up the life of Judy Finney in a short summary.  Her kindness and positivity were fueled by her deep and endless capacity to love.  She was a wonderful wife and best friend to the love of her life, Jimmy.  She was a loving mother who always knew what to say and the perfect Neena with an endless supply of sweets and treats. Judy was always doing the classic good deeds for others:  visiting those who are lonely, tending to the sick, delivering food to families in times of struggle, and helping those in need.  She certainly did all of those things on a regular basis, but Judy stepped it up a notch.  She made cookies for the workers at Southwest Cargo, delivered snacks to strangers in hospital waiting rooms, sent gifts to people she just met, had a card for every occasion and turned the gray skies blue with her kindness and positivity.  Judy will be missed by so many. Everyone she encountered knew and experienced true love in every moment of her presence.

She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Finney, son, Jarad Finney and his wife, Erica Briggs-Finney, daughter, Heather Finney, grandkids, Hayley Briggs and Bryson Finney, brother, Benny Harmon and wife Debbie and an innumerable group of “Friends Family.”

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday at the Howe Church of Christ Church. Burial will follow at the Hall Cemetery in Howe.
