Pregame Notes

Game Number 740 in school history.  Howe has a record of 377-338-24 since 1935.  The Bulldogs have won 20 of 27 games going back to Oct. 17, 2014.

Since 2014, Howe has rushed for 11,360 yards (344.24 per game and 7.03 avg yards per carry), have rushed for 133 touchdowns (4.03 per game).  During that same time, Howe is 30 for 67 passing with 488 yards (45 completion percentage, attempting 2 passes per game), throwing 6 touchdowns and 8 interceptions.

Since 2014, Howe has totaled 11,848 yards per game, averaging 51 plays per game and 359 yards per contest.

It is the 34th meeting between Howe and Pilot Point.  The last game between Howe and Pilot Point took place 17 years ago in a Bi-District playoff game at Pennington Field in Bedford, where Howe lost, 30-14 on Nov. 18, 1999.  Pilot Point leads the overall series, 19-13-1 going back to the first game in 1935 where Howe won 32-0.  The Bearcats have outscored Howe, 557-400 in the 33 games.  Pilot Point has won 10 of the last 11 since 1989 and 14 of the last 16 meetings since 1977.  Going back to 1947, Pilot Point has beaten Howe 17 times in 21 games.

The last Howe win against Pilot Point came on 11/13/1998 in a Bi-District playoff game in Denton.   Howe won 28-14 in one of the greatest wins in school history.  The last time Howe beat Pilot Point at home was back in 1988 in a homecoming rain-soaked evening that is also classified as one of the greatest games in school history.  The Bulldogs won 17-14 in come-from-behind fashion.

‘Howe’ Long Has it Been?

When Howe and Pilot Point last faced each other, the seniors were one-year-old.  Bill Clinton was going through the impeachment process, The Sopranos made their debut, Seth MacFarlane’s Family Guy first aired on Fox, John Elway was the MVP of the Super Bowl, Eminem released his first major record album The Slim Shady LP, 1st ever season of Big Brother reality show began, JFK Jr. was killed in a plane crash, Pete Sampras beats Andre Agassi, Dallas Stars defeated Buffalo Sabres 4-2 as Brett Hull clinched series with controversial “No Goal”, US Golf Open: Payne Stewart shot a 279 at Pinehurst CC. Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace was released in cinemas.

If Howe wins, they are in great shape to make the playoffs.  Standing would look like this should Pottsboro beat Van Alstyne and Whitesboro, Howe beats Pilot Point and Callisburg, Pilot Point loses to Howe and Van Alstyne, Van Alstyne lose to Pottsboro and beat Pilot Point, and Whitesboro beats Callisburg and loses to Pottsboro:
