Howe Chamber to host free downtown concert

From this week’s Howe Enterprise:

Last year Founders Day was hours away from being cancelled at the last minute due to the lack of vendor participants. With the infiltration of Keep Howe Beautiful and now the new restarted Howe Chamber of Commerce, this year’s event is scheduled to be the largest and is anticipated to be the most attended Founders Day event since the very first one 29 years ago.

The new Howe Area Chamber of Commerce has enlisted not one, but two live music entertainment events to take place in the area between Abby’s Restaurant and City Hall. Fred Spears will play from 2pm – 5pm with his version of old-time country music. And at 6 pm, Pilot Point native Chris McCandless will bring his Top 100 hit “It’s All in the Jeans to Howe, Texas. That concert will also take place between Abby’s Restaurant and City Hall. Downtown businesses, Advantage Business Machines, Abby’s Restaurant, Salvage Junky, Howe Mercantile and My Estrella Restaurants all pulled together to make this possible.

Citizens are asked to bring their own lawn chairs. McCandless fell in love with country music at a young age. With a rodeo junkie dad, every weekend of each summer found him in a different town and at a different rodeo. The rodeo dance was the highlight of every weekend for Chris. He fondly remembers, “Friday afternoon was spent polishing boots or washing the truck so I could hit the road with my dad.” The Chris McCandless show is truly a walk through country music history. From classic to outlaw to red dirt and top 40 hits from the ’80’s through today, classic rock, and a country twist on some ’80’s pop, the boys will please crowds of all ages and keep them on the dance floor. Even their originals are true blue country that would make the troubadours of the past proud. Chris’ first radio single “Kiss You All Over” spent over 10 weeks on the Texas charts and he has just released a new single titled “It’s All In The Jeans”. Chris has opened for such great acts as Easton Corbin, Deryl Dodd, 1100 Springs, Aaron Watson, Zane Williams, Brandon Rhyder, Josh Thompson and many more. The new Howe Area Chamber of Commerce has been very active in their first three months of activity. With a new home scheduled to open in April at 101 E. Haning, they will host the First Annual Howe Hall of Honor Induction Ceremony on the eve of Founders Day on April 24 at 7pm. They are also sponsoring a horseshoe tournament and a lawnmower race during the Founders Day event. A grand opening of the new office is coming soon.
