Former Howe school teacher Edna Dutton passes at the age of 97

Longtime school teacher Edna Dutton peacefully passed away this morning, March 20, 2015 at the age of 97.  Family night will be Monday at 6 pm at Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne.  The funeral will also be at Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne on Tuesday at 2 pm.

Obituary:

Edna Dutton age 97 of Van Alstyne passed away Friday, March 20, 2015 at her residence. She was born February 17, 1918 in Grayson County to John and Ella Shaw Skipworth. She married Arnold Dutton on June 1, 1946 in Rockwall, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 9 siblings. She is survived by her daughters and their husbands Camille and Larry Miller of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Mickey and Mike Horton of Van Alstyne. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Corey Horton of Van Alstyne, Texas, Yvette Jones of Crane, Texas, Luke Miller and wife Lori of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Damion Horton of The Colony, Texas, Lauren Groves and husband Chris of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Heath Horton of Howe, Texas and 8 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Dutton taught school for a number of years in Howe. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Howe for most of her adult life and was a member of Wilson N Jones auxiliary for many years. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 24, 2014 at Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne with Rev. Roger Tidwell and Rev. Larry Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Van Alstyne Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday night from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Pallbearers are grandsons Corey Horton, Luke Miller, Damion Horton, Heath Horton, great-grandson Caleb Jones and grandson-in-law Chris Groves.
