Mayor’s notice about Howe’s water issue

Howe Mayor Jeff Stanley released a statement regarding Howe’s current water issue that has had some citizens without water for nearly 24 hours.

“Due to a recent water main leak, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has required our water system, City of Howe to notify customers of the need to boil their water prior to consumption.

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and making ice should be boiled and cooled prior to use. The water should be brought to a vigorous, rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the water system officials will notify you that the water is safe for consumption.  Instructions to discontinue boiling will be issued in the same manner as this notice. If you have questions concerning this matter, you may contact City Hall at (903) 532-5571 during regular business hours.”

The mayor’s notice can be found at the city website of cityofhowe.org

Citizens can register for CodeRED to get updates

Grayson County has instituted the CodeRED Emergency Notification System – an ultra high-speed telephone communication service for emergency notifications. This system allows Grayson County to telephone all or targeted areas of the County in case of an emergency situation that requires immediate action (such as a boil-water notice, missing child or evacuation notices). The system is capable of dialing 60,000 phone numbers per hour. It then delivers a pre-recorded message describing the situations to a live person or an answering machine in the affected area possibly including instructions requiring action on the part of the recipient. Once the situation is remedied, another call will be placed to the area signaling that the issue has been addressed and that normal activities can be resumed.

Boil on: Update on water situation

There has been a  precautionary boil order put in place by The City of Howe until approximately early tomorrow (Wednesday) morning.  A main water line erupted sometime Monday night.  City Administrator Joe Shephard said that the line was laid in rock years ago by a contract company and is difficult to uncover.   There will be a water shortage for a least the rest of the day.

Crews will be working on the line all day today.

Northwest Howe to be without water until tomorrow

A main break in the water supply on the northwest side of Howe will have a portion of Howe out of water until tomorrow.  City of Howe’s David Wortham suggests that a hole in the line might have been blown when the water came back on from the FM 902 water main issue from this afternoon. Summit Hill, Pioneer Valley, Timbercreek and Marilee Court will be without water until sometime mid-morning tomorrow at the earliest.

Christmas tree lighting in downtown Howe

Keep Howe Beautiful will hold a tree lighting ceremony after the Christmas Parade on Dec 13.  Children are encourage to make their own Christmas ornament and bring it to decorate the tree! (Biodegradable and Animal friendly please)

Black Friday send-off

Bring your signs and noise makers to join the cheerleaders, band members, and fans this Friday at 1:15 p.m. The send-off begins in the parking lot of Howe High School with a victory line to cheer on the Dogs as they board the bus. The Bulldogs will have a police escort and will leave the school grounds by 1:30 p.m. At that time, the bus will take the service road of US 75 going south in front of Sonic, head back east through downtown Howe, and then off to Tyler Rose Stadium. This route will give everyone in the victory line plenty of time to drive to the downtown area to see the team out of town. Everyone is encouraged to support your hometown team.
