Howe Fire Department truck on fire
Howe Fire Department was responding to a hay bale fire in Van Alstyne went one of their own fleet caught on fire just south of town on Hwy 5. The 1999 Ford F-350 driven by fire fighter Steven Cortinas.
“I heard a loud pop.” said Cortinas. “I pulled over to see what was going on because I saw smoke. A UPS driver pulled over and told me the bottom was on fire. The next thing we know, the belts and everything on the bottom was on fire.”
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was a V-10 five-speed and had been a part of the fleet since 1999.

Downtown building transforming from 40 years of hardware/appliance store to new Chamber/EDC office for city.
What was once Happy’s Cafe, Estep Appliances and M&M’s Hardware is being transformed into the new home of the Howe Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development home. This building will hold monthly downtown mixer events as well as chamber breakfasts and networking meetings. It is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2015.
Howe’s Mayor Stanley talks about CMA’s Toys for Tots tragedy
Russell “Russ” Neis, 49 of McKinney was recently fataly struck by an oncoming car while delivering toys on his motorcycle to a church in Whitewright. Neis was the President of the McKinney CMA (Christian Motorcycle Association) Chapter Guardians of Grace as well as a certified instructor for North Texas Riders. Russ was a member of Crosspoint Church in McKinney, where he was an usher and active member of the men’s group.
Howe’s Mayor Jeff Stanley, who is president of the Sherman Christian Motorcycle Association in Grayson County and new President of the CMA Chapter Guardians of Grace, Tom Davis spoke with The Howe Enterprise and with KTEN television about the tragedy and outreach of the Christian Motorcycle Association.
