Howe ISD and City of Howe offices will be closed Monday

Due to inclement weather conditions, children will rejoice because they will not have to go to school tomorrow.  The City of Howe offices will be closed on Monday as well as the Howe Community Library.

TxDOT is checking roads across Northeast Texas and some bridges in Grayson County are already icing.  They are warning drivers to check the roads before traveling and to drive safely.

Atlanta Braves prospect and Howe Bulldogs alumni, Garrett Fulenchek will throw 30 pitches in tonight’s alumni game.  A team of Howe Bulldogs alumni ranging from ages 18-41 will take on the current Howe Bulldogs at 7pm tonight at the Howe High School baseball field.  Fulenchek will sign autographs starting at 5:30 and then participate in a long-ball competition which starts at 6 pm.  Following the long-ball competition will be the 3rd alumni game between the old guys and the varsity.

Lady Bulldogs lose Area Championship to Brock, 54-26

A combination of early foul trouble for Riley Harvey and a stingy defense by the Brock Lady Eagles spelled trouble for the Howe Lady Bulldogs.  The Howe girls’ season ends with a record of 26-7 and comes at the hands of one of the best teams in the state.  Brock is currently ranked 4th in the State of Texas according to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

Harvey ended with 10 points and seven rebounds.  Two early fouls called on her that appeared to be clean blocks spelled trouble for her and the Lady Bulldogs.  With Harvey on the bench, Howe couldn’t gain momentum against the tight guard defense of Brock.

All five starters for Howe will return next season.  A full story on the back-to-back-to-back bi-district champion Howe Lady Bulldogs will appear on the front page of Monday’s Howe Enterprise.

Downtown Howe fixture Clinton Upholstering to be no longer

Clinton Upholstering has been in Downtown Howe since July, 1978, but will close their doors for good on March 15 after 37 years.  The building owner Georgia Caraway has decided to use the 109 E. Haning St location with the 107 unit for her new business (The Howe Emporium) that will open on Founders Day.  Clinton Upholstering will now operate at 300 CR 1220, Savoy, Texas.

“Cowboys aren’t supposed to cry, so I’ve got that behind me.” said Billy M. Clinton.  “I don’t want to go.  We are thankful. We’ve been well blessed here.  We’re thankful for all of the friends we have here.  If you treat people right, most people will treat you right.  In Howe, if you give people good service with a good price and you treat them right, they’re going to tell everybody.”

He and his wife Lavonna opened the Clinton’s Home Furnishings in 1978, but changed their focus to upholstering in 1979 and renamed the business to Clinton Upholstering which it has been ever since.

“It was very difficult to tell Mr. Clinton that I needed the space his upholstery business occupied for my new store.” said Caraway.  “I know that this caused him great concern about where he would move. I am so relieved that his business will continue to thrive in its new location.”

There will be a full story in the Monday, Feb 23 edition of The Howe Enterprise.
