Carol Reinhard, 1955-2015, Obituary
SHERMAN – Carol Sue Reinhard, 59, of Fort Worth and Sherman, Texas passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones on May 4, 2015.
Carol was born in Savannah, Georgia on September 24, 1955 to Jimmy Jack and Willa Mae Borah. A happily well-traveled Air Force Brat, she spent her early childhood in England, and much of her later childhood in Goose Bay Labrador where she first fell in love with the beauty and wonder of the great outdoors.
Carol graduated from Denison High School, where she met her husband, Joe, the father of her three children. She earned a BA in Education from the University of North Texas, and she touched and inspired numerous lives teaching elementary education for 35 years in Grayson County, as well as in Carrolton and Arlington.
Carol was preceded in death by her father. She is survived by her son Jesse and his wife Rebecca and their baby daughter Ava of New Mexico; her daughter Sarah, her son Joseph, her grandson Asher, and her mother Willa Borah, all of Grayson County. Additionally she is survived by her brother Jimmy and his wife Lynda of Denison, her brother Donny and his wife Shelly of Pottsboro, and her brother Danny and his wife Sonja of Sherman. Carol will be remembered with great love by students, colleagues, friends, and by Farallon, the family Labrador Retriever, with whom she enjoyed daily walks along tree-lined paths.
Even throughout her recent illness, Carol’s trademark kindness and perseverance were a true inspiration to everyone whose path she crossed. Her greatest loves were spending time with her children and grandchildren, teaching, and traveling. Some of her favorite places to visit with family were the mountains of Colorado, California’s northern coast, and most recently, the peaceful and beautiful New Mexican desert.
Cremation arrangements are made with American Funeral Home in Denison. A public memorial celebration to honor Carol’s life will be held on Sunday, May 10th at 4 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn in Denison at 5015 S US 75, with a family prayer and wildflower ceremony at the Red River to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Carol Reinhard Memorial Fund at Independent Bank (903) 891-9999 at 300 E. Taylor Street, Sherman, TX 75090 to help fund the purchase of a memorial bench for everyone’s future enjoyment at one of Carol’s favorite places in nature, exact location to be determined.
On Carol’s behalf, the family wishes to thank Home Hospice of Grayson County and the Nursing Staff at Texoma Medical Center for their compassion, kindheartedness, and generosity.

Spitting-mad Denison woman gets prison time
On Wednesday, May 6, 2015, a Grayson County jury sentenced Christy Allane Rodriguez, 49, of Denison, to 5 years in prison for Harassment of a Public Servant. The verdict was returned after a two day trial in the 397th District Court before Judge Brian Gary.
On July 15, 2014, Denison Police Officer Holly Jenkins responded to Rodriguez’ residence in the 200 block of S. Hull Street in Denison after Rodriguez called police to report that she had been the victim of a theft as her friend had used her food stamp card without her permission. Upon questioning, Officer Jenkins determined that an offense report could not be taken because Rodriguez had voluntarily given the card to the person and had given him the pin number. Jenkins also noticed signs of intoxication on Rodriguez. When Jenkins began to leave, Rodriguez followed the officer from the apartment and into the breezeway of the apartments and continued to make statements, which the officer could not understand because of the slurring of Rodriguez’ words. Officer Jenkins noted that Rodriguez was heavily intoxicated and Jenkins had to catch her at one point when Rodriguez lost her balance. After determining that Rodriguez was a danger to herself or others, Jenkins place Rodriguez under arrest for Public Intoxication.
Upon being arrested, Rodriguez began to resist Jenkins and another officer, and when placed in a patrol vehicle, began to kick the inside of the vehicle and scream profanities and threats at the officers. After being warned that she faced additional charges for the behavior, Rodriguez then spit through the metal cage partition in the vehicle, and her saliva struck Officer Jenkins in the face and arms.
“It is a felony crime to cause bodily fluids to contact an officer in the course of their duties,” said Grayson County District Attorney Joe Brown. “Police officers obviously have to deal with difficult people as part of their jobs, but they absolutely should not have to be subjected to being spit upon. We appreciate the respect this jury had for the difficult job of police officers.”
The jury deliberated less than 10 minutes before finding Rodriguez guilty of Harassment of a Public Servant. The charge, originally a 3rd Degree Felony but enhanced to a higher category because of Rodriguez’ prior conviction for a felony, carried a punishment range of 2-20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. During the punishment portion of the trial, jurors learned that Rodriguez had previously been to prison for felony Driving While Intoxicated, and had other convictions for Theft and Endangering A Child.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Bi Hunt and Nathan Young. Sherman attorneys Marcus Olds and David Wilson represented Rodriguez.

Esther Oleta Carney Fulenwider Reatherford turning 100
Submitted by Carol Fulenwider
Esther Oleta Carney Fulenwider Reatherford will be 100 years old on Sunday, May 24. A party to celebrate her birthday will be held that day at the Van Alstyne Senior Center. A barbeque meal and birthday cake will be served from noon until 2pm or 3pm. Esther’s family is hoping that everyone who has been her friend during the past century will come to help celebrate. Birthday cards will be welcome but no presents please.
Esther was just a toddler when her parents Bill & Julie Carney moved their little family from Arkansas to live in Grayson County Texas. Everything the couple owned was carried in a covered wagon, and they settled on a share-cropper farm in the Collinsville area. Esther was the oldest of eight. The Carney family lived on several farms, first to the East, then the West of Van Alstyne, and in 1937 moved into town.
Soon after graduation, Esther married Emmitt Fulenwider and over the next 18 or so years the couple had eleven (11) children. One boy died at birth and two of her sons, Roy and Carl, died within the recent past. Esther’s remaining children and their spouses are giving her the party for her 100th birthday, May 24.
In 1965, Esther married Jack Reatherford. The couple and 5 of the Fulenwider children lived in-between Sherman and Denison until they bought a home in the Louella community. Before Jack’s death in 2006, he and Esther were active in the Veteran’s organizations. Jack was the senior officer of the American Legion in Sherman and Esther was Vice President several times. They often represented the organization at the state convention. Also, Jack called Bingo for many years and Esther went along to play, often taking some of “her boys.”
Most of Esther’s children live in or near Grayson County. The oldest daughter Mary and husband Bob Reed live in Pilot Point. The second daughter Eddie Lee and husband Paul Purdom have a home in Van Alstyne. Youngest daughter Gale and husband Bill Cox live in Tom Bean. The Fulenwider sons include Alford (wife Joyce) of Whitesboro; John (wife Linda) who live near Denton; and oldest son Bill (wife Carol) who live in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Esther’s youngest sons Dale and Lewis Fulenwider are single and live with her.
Each of the six couples has children, grandchildren and two have great-grandchildren, making Esther a great, great grandmother. It is hoped that all these dozens of Fulenwider immediate family members will be at the Senior Center in Van Alstyne on Sunday, May 24th, along with her only remaining sister Dorothy, and as many “nieces, nephews, grand and greats” who are able to come to this once-in-a-lifetime event. They cordially invite the dozens of friends who still remember Esther from at least one stage in her long life.
A barbeque lunch and cake will be served from noon until 2 or 3pm at the Van Alstyne Senior Center. Everyone who knows her is urged to come. Cards would be great! No presents please. Her birthday, Sunday May 24 from noon until 3 or so.
