9-3-1, District Champions, Bi-District Champions, Area Champions
Jim Fryar took over at head coach in the 1985 season. After starting slow, Fryar came up with a trips offense that featured Stephen Ogle and Howe would romp their way to the Regional Championship for the first time since 1970. One of the key victories of that season was one of many police escorts and caravans down Highway 5 to Van Alstyne that psyched out the Panthers. They lost a heartbreaker to Groveton (who went on to play in the State Championship Game) 16-14 in the final seconds of the Regional semifinals. All that were there saw one of the best runs in school history when Stephen Ogle picked up a lateral and made all 11 Groveton defenders miss on his way to a touchdown run.
