In 1948, Howe, under new coach George Matlock, started 3-0, until losing to Whitesboro 20-0. Howe gave up a school record 48 points to Van Alstyne and didn’t win another football game until the late 1950s. Due to lack of kids to participate and safety reasons, Howe didn’t field a team for nine years.
