8-3, District Champions
Hopes were high once again in 1991 as Howe head coach Joey McQueen had a ton of starters back on offense. This time, he had to revamp his defense. Monte Walker kicked a 42 yd FG on opening night vs. Leonard to set the record for the longest FG in school history. He would later go on to tie Ramiro Quintero for the most FG’s with 7. The Bulldogs allowed 46 points during the regular season (least since 1947) and actually scored more points on defense than they allowed. Howe hosted Pilot Point for homecoming and held them scoreless throughout the game, except for the second half kickoff in which Pilot Point ran it back. That score beat Howe 7-3. The Bulldogs again went into Bells with everything on the line. Howe had to win by 5 points to win District and go to the playoffs. James Fulenchek scored on a short yarder and Jay Carson scored on a reverse to give Howe a 12-7 win. Howe went on to win district with an 8-2 record, but bowed out of the playoffs after a Bi-District loss to arch rival Van Alstyne.
