1970 Howe Bulldogs

10-2, District Champions, Regional Champions

The 1970 squad was the second highest scoring team in school history, finishing with 286 points. They were the first team to outright win a playoff game on the field. Rickey Hanning led the ‘Dogs to the Regional Championship with a 22-0 victory over Windthorst. In class B ball, that was as far as a team could go in those days. Hanning passed Jack Gattis as the most prolific passer in school history with 24 TD’s. Other star players on that team were Ricky Orr, Tim Underwood, Butch Thornhill, Eddie Hamilton, Jerry Dukes, Butch Schneider, Mike Bledsoe, and David Morrison. Robert Trotter and Robert Billy would alternate plays in and out and carry the ball. Howe set a school record with 10 victories in that storied season.
