1945 Howe Bulldogs

8-1, District Champions (undefeated, unscored on)

1945 Howe Bulldogs

In 1945, new coach, John B. Lair, coached the Bulldogs to their finest defensive season ever. They started the season with the first ever victory over rival Van Alstyne 13-0. The Bulldogs shut out every opponent in the regular season, including Gunter, Bells, Collinsville, Sherman B, Tioga, Pilot Point, and Tom Bean. The 1945 squad remains the only undefeated, unscored-on team in school history. Overshadowed by the defense was James Holloway’s 16 TD’s and numerous long runs. Holloway scored 92 points to lead the Howe Bulldogs. The Bulldogs won the district championship and played Frisco in McKinney. Frisco shut out Howe 19-0.
