Jack Osborn stayed around to coach the 1947 season. The ‘Dogs took on a bigger Plano team in the opener, losing 25-13. Even though the Bulldogs finished with seven shutouts, a 7-3 record wasn’t good enough to win the district. The dominating players in ’47 were Ned Estes, who legitimized himself as one of the premier pass catchers in the entire State of Texas, Walter Stegall Jr., Tommy Julien, and QB Jack Gattis. Estes finished his Bulldog career with 15 receiving TD’s which was a school record above David Francis’ 9 and stood for 42 years. Jack Gattis also ended his career as the all-time passing leader with 20 TD’s, which also stood for 23 years.
